Member Champions

A 'Member Champion' is an elected councillor who is chosen by the Council meeting to represent a particular interest. Normally a councillor who does not sit on the Cabinet (i.e. the Council Executive) a Member Champion will 
  • develop an understanding of the interest area;
  • advocate that interest both within the Council structures and externally in the community
  • work with the Council, the Executive, Partner bodies and the communities to promote the interest being championed
  • monitor service delivery on behalf of the interest being championed
  • report to the Council and to others as required
The Council currently appoints Member Champions for the following interests:

Each Member Champion is supported by a lead Director. The Director role is primarily to support the Member Champion, to guide the Champion in producing an action plan to deliver the role and to help the Champion in meeting Council requirements. The Council will review its Member Champion roles at its Annual Meeting, usually held in May. The following web pages (see links above) provide information about the individual champions, their lead Directors, their action plans for the year and any specific initiatives they have taken within their interest area.
